Abstract: The present paper is devoted to the main work by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn The Red Wheel, which took about 60 years to be written. The scientists who research Solzhenitsyn’s works of art claim that the writer dealt with this historical novel to the last years of his life. Nevertheless, the creation of new parts of the gigantic cycle had been finished before Solzhenitsyn returned to the homeland in the early 90’s. The author of the paper focuses on some artistic postulates of the writer and shows the circumstances of the decision to stop working on the epopee
