Abstract: The goal of this article is to discuss some of Polish interpretations of Carl Schmitt. I recognize two interpretative lines that grew from different readings of Schmitt’s thought. The first tends to interpret his thought as a political philosophy, the second tends to interpret it as a political theology. The source of the difference is a different approach to religion in Schmitt’s work, which is treated either as a myth, or a revelation, or a subject of historical-sociological studies. In the most extreme case it leads to consideration of Schmitt as either a nihilist, or a fideist
