Abstract: Human resources risk is one of the most important organizational risk areas in knowledge-based economy. At the same time, it is a poorly recognized area, both in managerial theory and practice. The purpose of the study is to analyze the phenomenon of HR risk, including its significance for the functioning of contemporary organizations, the identification of its sources and the recognition of managers' attitudes towards this risk. The objectives were attained through subject literature analysis and on the basis of the results of research carried out by means of a diagnostic survey using a questionnaire. In the course of research, it was established that HR risk may apply to each of the subprocesses implemented as part of the personnel function, from the planning of employment to the reduction of employment. In the light of global research, it is perceived as one of the key risks to company operations. In turn, under Polish conditions it seems to be underestimated. Typically, Polish managers perceive it as a threat, which results in HR risk avoidance and limitation, leading to the loss of opportunities which would otherwise have been created.
