Abstract: The article presents the short history of strategic partnership between Poland and Ukraine within 1991-2009. Polish-Ukrainian relations were established soon after Ukraine gained independence from the Soviet Union in the early 1990s. Support for Ukrainian sovereignty has become an important component of Polish foreign policy. Poland strongly supported the 2004 Orange Revolution in Ukraine, and has backed NATO Ukraine cooperations as well as Ukraine's efforts to join the European Union. On the other hand, various controversies from their shared history still having influence on Polish Ukrainian relations. Recent political and economic developments in Ukraine have been unsatisfactory. The political crises in 2007 and 2008 paralyzed the negotiations on an Association Agreement with the European Union. Being a strong strategic partner of Ukraine, Poland should take measures to support Ukraine in accession negotiations with EU.
