Abstract: China as the "Middle Kingdom" dates its existence and continuity for many centuries before our era. The Chinese themselves, who inhabited areas of present-day China, creating their own culture, have contributed to the idea of the superiority of their civilization. Literature frequently postulates that China constitutes a civilization within a state. This is due to many factors, including the size of the Chinese nation, with a distinct culture and way of thinking about the world. Therefore China puts a high premium on competition in the international arena, in terms of understanding security, including economic, political, cultural and military. This paper attempts to provide facts, processes and phenomena that affect China’s current notion of national safety or security. Based on the analysis of available material, the paper considers whether the Chinese people connect their security with the state more than the nation.
